The Hidden Palace and other notes on last week Also it snowed a little, but not enough to warrant a comic I guess. I enjoyed Ryan Reynolds in Free Guy. He has shirts that are all blue. One day he tries to order a different kind of coffee and a tank takes aim at him so he changes his might. He works at a bank that is held up many times a day because he lives in a video game. One day he gets the sunglasses usually worn by the players and he sees the world in a whole new way. The Master has a limited menu, but he will make anything if he has the ingredients. Sometimes customers even bring the ingredients. What is currently showing seems to be the first season, which I don’t know why they are showing it after the others. Maybe it seems more risque. The first episode featured a trans senior and a yakuza. Characters who linger between midnight and seven in the morning are not your run of the mill. I had really enjoyed Helene Wecker’s first book, The Golem and the Jinni. This is a perfect sequel in that it expands on the world and themes of the first. It is so rich in detail and emotion and themes. She even saw this comic and liked it on Insta. Even though I don’t exactly follow the news, it was hard to ignore Russia invading Ukraine. I recalled the only Ukrainian related memory, which was from elementary school and somehow stuck to me. I have eaten perogies as few times since then. I had seen a validictory address in which the guy talked about the value of making a commitment to something. And it got me thinking about the different situations and how marketing tends to overwhelm us now with choice. Raymond Nakamura, Ph.D.February 27, 2022Comment 0 Likes
