Fresh Off the Boat
Movies or tv shows with Asian characters who speak English are still a novelty. The new TV comedy Fresh Off the Boat is interesting because it features a Taiwanese family that has moved to a white neighbourhood in Florida. The guy who plays the dad was funny in the Interview and he is good here, although I think the wife character is extra funny. It set in the nineties with nostalgia about dial-up connections. I liked how they used subtitles not only for when they speak English but to indicate the real meaning of what the sisters said in English.
