The Magical World of Long Tack Sam

This wonderful graphic memoir by Ann Fleming shares her quest to find out about her great-grandfather Long Tack Sam who travelled the world as a Chinese magician and entertainer once upon a time. He married an Austrian woman, which adds a whole other layer to it. Fleming does a great job of connecting world history with family stories of mixed backgrounds. She originally did this as a film. I liked how she combines her personal stick figure reflections on identity with colour comics and archival photos. She says, "History is relatives" a theme I am interested in exploring as well.
