Blaise Pascal said, “The heart has its reasons of which reason knows nothing.” So for whatever reason, you might like a certain genre of writing. If you can find others who share your enthusiasm, then it can be easier to pursue it. Fantasy seems pretty mainstream nowadays. But you might think that you should like a certain kind of writing, either because of what you’ve heard, or maybe just because someone you like liked it and you want to be like that. If you can’t connect to your “authentic” self, however silly, than you might waste a lot of time.
