Learning Zones

Eduardo Briceno in a TED Talk discussed the difference between Learning Zones and Performance Zones. Learning Zones are where you try things out, where you push your limits, and therefore should make mistakes. Performance Zones is where you deliver what you think will be perfect. He said we do not have enough Learning Zones. Schools, by marking everything, have turned everything into Performance Zones. My teenage daughter is terrified of making mistakes or trying things on her own. It breaks my heart, but she seems to be behaving rationally within the system. And they wonder why anxiety is so widespread.
