#MyBaachan 36. Commission House
My Baachan moved into house like this, 14' x 28', in the fall of 1942. It had a kitchen in the middle with a wood stove (note the stacks of wood outside and the smokestack out the top) with a bedroom on each side. Her eldest son, his wife and their baby lived on one side and the rest of the offspring on the other. About 8 or 9 in there.
It was made of green wood planks, which tended to shrink over time, leaving gaps between them with only a piece of tarpaper for insulation.
This drawing is based on a black and white photo of a house in another relocation camp called Lemon Creek.
